Jennie Nixon, Head of School, achieved the gold UK Parliament Teacher Ambassador award

In July 2018, Jennie Nixon, Head of School, achieved the gold UK Parliament Teacher Ambassador award.  Following the 3 professional development days in London, Jennie delivered the following back in school –

Assemblies to KS1 and KS2 children and parents at Whiteways and Owler Brook Primary Schools.

Professional development meeting for all staff from Whiteways and Owler Brook.

Themed week across both schools celebrating 100 years of votes for women – this was publicised in the local newspaper.

Organised a debating team to take part in City Talks at Sheffield Town Hall.

Developed a relationship with Magid Magid, Sheffield Lord Mayor and arranged visits to his offices in the Town Hall and for him to visit Whiteways.

Celebrated Parliament Week in November with a visit from local MP Gill Furniss and debates between Whiteways and Owler Brook KS2 children.

Assemblies to celebrate equality and democracy will also be woven into the school year.

We hope to organise a visit to the Houses of Parliament in Spring 2019.
