Foundation Stage

Welcome to Foundation Stage Two

We would like to take this opportunity to wish you a very warm welcome to Foundation Stage Two. We are all very excited about the year ahead and look forward to helping your child settle into their new school environment.

The Foundation Stage is where children are inspired and encouraged to develop an interest in learning for life within a happy, creative and secure space. Children learn through play-based experiences which are practical and linked to the Early Years Curriculum Framework. We help develop children’s growth in the key Characteristics of Learning, which are; Play and Exploration, Active Learning and Creative and Critical Thinking.

This Years Topics

Throughout the year we cover 6 themes.

Term 1: Super Me/Super Heroes

Children start their learning by thinking about themselves, their families and the world around them.

Term 2: On the Move and Down on the Farm

Children learn about different journeys they may make and about different ways of getting there. We use a wide range of fun story books to enhance the children’s understanding of the theme. We move onto learning about our wider world and learn about where our food comes from, healthy eating, animals and the environment. This also includes an exciting trip to a farm.

Term 3: In the Garden/Water, Water, Everywhere

We learn about the exciting world in our own back yard, we learn about mini-beasts and things that grow. This links to our theme about water and its importance in our lives.

Helping at Home

You can help at home by encouraging independence through getting themselves dressed and undressed, putting on their own coats, joining in helping cooking and baking activities and sharing books daily at home. Books can be borrowed from school for you to encourage a love of reading and develop comprehension skills

“Our vision is to provide an excellent primary education that gives our children the very best chance of succeeding in life.”
