Year 1

We are so excited for the year ahead. We have some fantastic, fun learning opportunities planned and we look forward to sharing these with your child every day!

In their first year of Key Stage 1 your child will build on the skills that developed in Foundation Stage. We start by building classroom routines and nurturing good relationships, encouraging an enthusiasm for all aspects of school life; including social skills, developing friendships, and becoming independent, curious learners.

They will continue to develop reading, using Read, Write Inc. and they will bring home copies of texts to help them with their reading at home.  Please share these texts and other reading books with your child every day, taking turns reading to them and for them to read to you. They will also bring home words from their ‘Read Write Inc’ Phonics session to practise reading at home.

In the Autumn Term we will have a History focus, ‘What can we learn from the past?’ Following this, in the Spring Term we will have a Geography focus, Africa; and in the Summer Term we will have a Science focus on animals.
