The Hive

Welcome to The Hive – the Integrated Resource at Whiteways School

The Hive is part of Cascade Integrated Resource. Children are placed in our provision by the Local Authority. All children have an Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCP). Our provision supports children with a main area of need of Communication and Interaction.

In the Hive, our curriculum links to the main school learning with three themes being taught over the year. Within the Integrated Resource, we overlay the use of the SCERTs (Social Communication, Emotional Regulation and Transactional Supports) approach throughout our curriculum to develop our children’s communication, language and emotional regulation skills as well as to improve their attention and organisational skills. The provision we offer in the Integrated Resources is bespoke and we tailor the learning to the needs of each individual child.

Alongside our academic curriculum, we also run weekly Life Skills lessons to promote independence and prepare our pupils for adulthood. The children especially enjoying cooking and gardening.

Topics

Over the year we try to answer three main research questions linked to the three areas of topic. These are:

Autumn: Who has helped us in the past? A focus on Florence Nightingale

Spring: Where do I live? A study of Sheffield.

Summer: What is up there? Exploring Space and Forces

Home to School communication

We use Seesaw to encourage our children to tell their parents about the work they have done each week. This helps our parents to have conversations about their children’s learning in The Hive and see how we support the children throughout the day using visuals to improve communication. We welcome seeing pictures of what the children do over the weekend and holidays so that we can use this to promote speaking and listening in The Hive.

Thanks for visiting our page. If you have any worries or concerns, please do not hesitate to come and speak to Miss Cass or any members of the IR team.
